Help 50 Pakistani Hindu Refugee Families Leave Delhi and Build New Lives in Haridwar
They left Pakistan hoping for a better life in India. Now, some are being forced to consider going back. Can we help them before that happens?
For hundreds of Pakistani Hindu refugee families living in Delhi, life has become an everyday struggle for survival.
They came to India with hope. They wanted nothing extraordinary — just a safe place to live, an opportunity to earn a livelihood, education for their children, and a future free from fear and uncertainty.
Unfortunately, years later, many families are still struggling to meet even their most basic needs.
Despite their willingness to work hard and become self-reliant, their circumstances have become increasingly difficult.
Frequent floods, disruption of small businesses by authorities, insecure living conditions, medical emergencies, documentation difficulties, unemployment, and the absence of adequate rehabilitation support have pushed several families into extreme distress.
For families surviving through daily wages, roadside carts, and small businesses, even a few days without income can mean going hungry.
Some families have already returned to Pakistan. Others are seriously considering doing the same.
Imagine the helplessness of a family that left Pakistan hoping to build a safer future in India, only to find itself considering a return because it cannot afford to survive here.
This is precisely why Hindu Samman Foundation (HSF) believes that humanitarian assistance alone is no longer enough.
These families need rehabilitation, permanent shelter, and opportunities to earn their own livelihood.
A Request From Refugees Living in Four Delhi Camps
Refugee families from four different camps in Delhi have approached Hindu Samman Foundation with a collective request:
Help us relocate to a place where we can build our homes, find employment, and live with dignity.
Haridwar, Uttarakhand, has emerged as one of the destinations identified for their rehabilitation.
Approximately 50 Pakistani Hindu refugee families are willing to relocate to Haridwar and rebuild their lives there.
Our HSF teams have visited the proposed location multiple times to examine its suitability for rehabilitation.
We have identified several encouraging factors:
- Nearby factories offering potential employment opportunities.
- Highway connectivity and roadside locations where families may establish small businesses and carts, subject to applicable permissions.
- A comparatively affordable location for developing low-cost housing.
- Encouraging support from local residents willing to help HSF establish a rehabilitation settlement.
Most importantly, these families themselves want to relocate. They are not asking to depend on donations forever.
They are asking for an opportunity to stand on their own feet.
Introducing Samman Niwas – Haridwar
Building upon our experience with the free housing initiative in Jodhpur, Hindu Samman Foundation is now working towards establishing another rehabilitation settlement:
SAMMAN NIWAS – HARIDWAR, UTTARAKHAND
We have identified and finalised our preferred land parcel for this initiative, subject to completion of the required legal verification and purchase formalities.
Our immediate objective is to purchase four bighas of land, which will form the foundation of a proposed low-cost housing settlement for approximately 50 refugee families.
The project aims to provide families with more than a roof over their heads. We want to help them establish a stable environment where they can earn, educate their children, access essential services, and become contributing members of their new community.
Our Immediate Fundraising Goal: ₹2.20 Crore
TOTAL LAND PURCHASE FUNDRAISING TARGET
₹2,20,00,000
This fundraising target is for land acquisition. Housing construction, infrastructure, and other development expenses will be planned and funded separately.
Every contribution, regardless of its size, will bring us closer to securing this land and beginning the next phase of rehabilitation.
Why Your Support Matters
For a refugee family living under constant uncertainty, a permanent home can change everything.
It means children can attend school without repeatedly worrying about displacement.
It means parents can focus on earning a livelihood rather than wondering where their families will sleep tomorrow.
It means elderly people and vulnerable family members can live with greater security and dignity.
And, most importantly, it means families who are considering returning to Pakistan because of economic hardship can have a meaningful alternative here in India.
We cannot undo the suffering these families have experienced, but together, we can help change what happens next.
We appeal to Hindu society, philanthropists, charitable trusts, business owners, corporate organisations, and compassionate individuals across the world to support this rehabilitation initiative.
Your contribution is not merely helping us purchase land.
It is helping create the foundation of a new community, offering distressed families a chance to rebuild their lives and reducing the circumstances that drive reverse migration to Pakistan.
